I know what you’re thinking, Jesus Christ Tim, What the fuck, where have you been???
Well let me tell you all about it:
We had a bit of a disaster with the first apartment that we were supposed to move into, I was at a job interview, walked out and was told that the landlord wanted another two months rent in advance. I think it had something to do with the girls, to the lay man they do look a little shifty. Anyway, as it turned out the agency that we went through just happened to have another place in the same area which actually turned out to be better, so here I am with my nice big room and remote control air con. (but getting Wi-Fi over here is harder than it may sound....more to follow on this subject)
I got a job with no hasel teaching in a school but from day one I felt like slipping sleeping pills into the kid's drinking water. Jesus, I thought Irish kids were bad but these little fuckers were actually eating the furniture. So I decided that the best way to go would be giving private lessons in peoples houses and I have never made a better choice in my life. I have lessons with all different ages including one student who's a professor of sociology. I wake up, write my lesson plan, and usually start work no earlier than 16.30 in the afternoon.
To be honest I hav'nt had an opportunity to really enjoy Madrid yet because I'm waiting till the 4th to be paid, but fuck it, I'm learning so much and gaining loads of experience and I knew that the first month would be a nightmare. Believe me, if you do decide to move anywhere and teach when you don't know the lingo you will really really want to go home within the first week but you have to stick it out and things will settle down for you, I promise.
Anyway the weather is great and the work is easy so I really have nothing to complain about. I went to meet my boss today to pick up some books and hand in my hours for the month and in return she gave me a laptop bag full of goodies, where would you find it?!!
Anywho, the Tim Sullivan (supersquirrel) broadcasting system in back online (for now) so I will be keeping you all up to date.
Hola everybody,
Trying to sort out internet at the mo so I´m working from internet cafes. All is going well and we are all working. I´m keeping track of everything I´m up to on my laptop and as soon as I get hooked up I´ll update you all.
Bye for now,
Tim.
Asta man, asta manya, asta man, Good morning,
Well today is the day, after all the running around, the heavy lifting, the tears, the tantrums and of course the crazy ass room mates we are finally moving in to an apartment. We have to leave this hostel in half an hour and I still have to get ready so I'll make this brief.
We are about to be homeless again for a few hours until the estate agent rings me( he better fucking ring me) so we have to find something to do for the day. Oh by the way I really can't recommend the hostel enough (hostel orli in Gran Via). It's very quite, Wi-Fi in every room, nice bathroom and when you walk outside the first thing you see are the 30 prostitutes walking up and down the street while the cops stand there talking to them and saying adios when they get a customer, Oh and they have a playroom for the kids.
Starting my job tomorrow so have to do a practice run on the Metro today because it's on the outskirts of Madrid. No Wi-Fi in the apartment so I have to go and get a portable dongle or whatever the fuck their called so I'll get you back up to speed as soon as I can.
Later!!!
Ola again,
Just as I finished typing I got a call from another school who want me to come in for an interview for a job teaching kids. So I'm off to study up on my grammar and with any luck I might just nail it.
Bye
Ola Mi Amigos,
Well I have moved out of that mental home and now I'm gonna spend one night in a new hostel before we sign for our apartment sometime tomorrow. This place is sooooo much nicer, it's in a place called Grand Via and it is called "Hostel Orli" right beside the Metro entrance. It's a really old building but the room has it's own bathroom and shower and it's so chilled out I can't believe it.
The job interview this morning went pretty good and hopefully I can teach for a few hours this week, get a little experience and then I'll be flying. Once I get going I hope to do private lessons and work as much as possible. The recession is visible here too but teaching jobs pay very good money so my cost of living should be fairly low.
If there is anyone reading this who would like some advice on doing the same, please feel free to contact me at tim.sullivan101@gmail.com and I will be more than happy to help.
Ok, peace out amigos
TIM
